Project Manager (Electrical)

 

Designer Group (DG), is a leading specialist Mechanical and Electrical service provider working  direct to the client or for tier 1 main contractors on a range of high profile projects within London and surrounding areas. DG is a very established business with the Dublin office employing over 800 staff. The UK business subsequently opened in 2006 becoming very successful, growing significantly within the last two years and currently employing over 200 staff which will continue to increase over the next five years. The Group has also recently acquired an energy consultancy business based in the US. Our success depends solely on the quality and motivation of our people and their ability to challenge the ‘norm’.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager on a permanent, full-time basis working from one of our prestigious projects in Central London and the surrounding areas which will also require some travel to our Watford Head Office and London Office. The role would suit someone that is keen to develop their career in a growing organisation. You will be reporting to the Project Director in this role. The overall responsibilities and personal specifications for this position are outlines below:

 

Key Responsibilities

 

*       Manage all aspects of programming of works and monitoring building progress, specified and alternative equipment submittals, compliance with regulations and issue weekly progress reports.

*       Supervision of personnel on site – specialist sub-contract, agency and direct employees.

*       Where necessary manage the design process contributing to Co-ordination of installation.

*       Carry out the necessary design reviews to ensure that installations are fit for purpose.

*       Ensure weekly progress reporting is issued, for example RFI’s, procurement schedules, technical submittals, program responses, critical date, identification and any documentation that is specific to projects which you are involved in. In order to achieve this, it is important that a full understanding of all aspects of the project is known.

*       Oversee the contracting process with chosen sub-contractors and ensuring all works are carried out correctly and as per contract and specification.

*       Co-ordination of plant movement and plant records and keeping log records up to date and accurate and reporting plant issues.

*       Ensure progress of work programme is maintained.

*       Co-ordination of plant movement positioning.

*       Co-ordination of delivery of materials to site, when required, including checking quantity and quality of deliveries and taking full responsibility for same.

*       Liaison with clients, main contractors and other trades personnel as and when required.

*       Attendance at all projects related and management meetings.

*       Hold regular progress meetings with both the design team and sub-contractors and effectively control the use of both labour and materials.

*       Carry out surveys of installations.

*       Ensure the installations are ready for commissioning on the due dates and manage commissioning so that no liquidated damages are incurred on any projects.

*       Inspection, testing, commissioning and witnessing plans.

*       Take part in value engineering and financial aspects of projects and follow guidance and direction of such meetings.

*       Close out project successfully and to budgeted profit levels.

*       Commercial awareness – requesting and monitoring of instructions, issue of work records, labour returns, provision of information for costing of variations etc.

*       Be responsible for implementing Designer Group Health and Safety Procedures, and reporting to the Company’s Head of Health and Safety.

*       Comply with Designer Group’s Quality, Safety and Environmental Systems including monitoring and maintaining site documentation.

*       Comply with Designer Group Policies and Procedures throughout day to day working.

*       Plan all labour and material requirements at least two weeks in advance, ensuring adequate stocks/materials are always available on site.

*       Compile lists of variations and issuing same to consultant engineers/quantity surveyors.

*       Have a full understanding and knowledge of the financial status of projects which you are involved in.

*       Play a key role in the value engineering process of the project which will include setting budgets, achieving targets, identifying variations and changes.  Closely monitor the usage of materials and resources on site.

*       Procurement of subcontract, plant and materials in conjunction with the Buying department.  Take full responsibility for achieving commercial buying targets.

*       Ensure subcontract/plant scopes are prepared to ensure that there are no grey areas in the package and to ensure that risks are offset via the supply chain.

*       Ensure productivity monitoring is put in place for all directly employed/agency operatives.

*       Have a fundamental understanding of the interfaces required between trades and the responsibilities therefore outlined within their scope of work documents and interface schedules.

*       Have a realistic understanding and approach to project planning and labour resourcing to meet the demands of the clients and your own program and project progress.

*       Ensure due diligence is carried out on sub-contract packages paying particular reference to the contract specification for items of material to be included within the scope of works documents.

 

Knowledge/Experience

 

*       5 years’ experience managing multi trade projects, preferably from an engineering role (Electrical qualified).

*       Achieved consistently good financial returns on projects, considering all relevant factors.

*       Overall knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of either mechanical or electrical systems and their installation methods (dependent on role).

*       Has previously worked for a Building Services Contractor at a similar level.

*       Previous experience managing large Commercial Projects.

*       Experience of working on large new build and fit out projects.

*       Able to use MS Project or Asta planning software.

*       Relevant Electrical qualifications
